Spolat!

It’s that time of year again when performance crazed tourists flood our streets with confusion and mirth. Combined with a cruise ship in port, it felt a little Spoluhhged out there today. I saw some old friends at lunch today and began reminiscing about a shirt I had in the eighties emblazoned with the slogan, “Bacon, Lettuce and Spoleto.” I think my step-brother ended up with the shirt and I shall search for evidence of its’ existence. I seem to recall it being delivered in an old Sand font. I have been saying for years that I wanted to revive it and emboldened with a belly full of fresh salad from Closed for Business, I came back and whipped up this sketch. Still rough but I thought we’d share for the festival kick-off. Look for a silk-screened final version on a shirt in the near future.

Speaking of Spoleto, we are looking forward to two great events tonight and, to our chagrin, two that will allude our presence. Dueling visual art openings are set to open this evening. From 5-7 PM the Halsey Institute of Contemporary art will be unveiling the incredible salt-based installation of Motoi Yamamoto. Motoi has been creating this work over the last 2 weeks. Based on our sneak peaks we know it will not disappoint the art lover and the art skeptic alike. Read more about the project here.

From 6-8 the City Gallery at Waterfront Park  will host “A LONG TIME AGO…” curated by Hirona Matsuda and featuring works by Becca Barnet, Lisa Abernathy, Seth Corts, Baird Hoffmire, Michelle Jewell, Xin Lu, Lisa Shimko, Liz Vaughan, and Trever Webster. Don’t miss it.

Two other worthy events will be missed by us but shouldn’t be missed by you. Green Hearts is hosting their bi-annual fundraiser and tonights porcine phalanx will prove as unctuous as it is altruistic. Grab a plate and save me some swine. Over at BlueIon they are hosting a lecture by House Industries which should be fontastic. Alas tis the season of overstuffed social calendars and champagne hangovers!
